Con-G

February 22nd, 2010 by Koria M

So the OAS returns from an awesome-packed Con-G this past weekend (Feb 20-21). Our members present were Mark, Alex, Mike, Gee, Nik, Christina, and Adrian. Everyone except Adrian stayed over at my place in Guelph and it was lots of fun. Sadly, I could not attend the convention for more than a couple hours in the day and attended only a bit of the dance, but from what I saw, it was running quite smoothly.

I noticed this year the organizers weren’t as stressed as last year and everything appeared to be running just great. There was a decently sized dealers room with retailers like The Dragon, GeoMangaArt, Skyefish Sushi, AnimeToys, Sakura wigs, Conspiracy comics, and more. There were several talented artists present in the Artist’s Alley, including our very own Mark P Tjan.

We setup our ConBravo table right outside of the Events room and we were able to talk to almost everyone who walked by. We met lots of great people whom we hope to see in July at ConBravo.

Some guests I looked forward to seeing were Lar deSouza and The 404s but I had to leave to return to my books, so I didn’t get to see them. I assisted Mark in running the AniManga Quiz show and what at first seemed like it was killing the audience, turned into an overtime of anime quizzing fun! Thank you to our participants.

Look forward to more detailed reviews from our other members on the masquerade, dance, panels, and more!

I also wanted to tell the organizers and head volunteers that they rock! Hope you guys had a blast:
Lindsay Pattillo, Christian Sandrock, Caitlin Thompson, Teri Smith, Caitlin Walsh, Jo Daly, Natalie Wallace, and Angela Dalton.

Programming

January 21st, 2010 by Koria M

As most of you know, I am a Computer Science student, learning the ways of extreme programming. Most of the time I love it but sometimes I just hate it. Like right now. Not even two days into the new semester, we were given an assignment.

I have to write a program that will deal with GPSu files. These are files that store data written by GPSs. It’s going to be a semester-long assignment and the first part is that we have to write functions that will basically deal with reading through the files, interpreting the data and manipulating it.

Another part of the assignment will be taking in a User’s instructions on creating routes they want to travel on and we have to compute the coordinates, dates, and nearby landmarks to these “trackpoints”.

Do not say “this sounds easy!” because it isn’t. There’s a lot of other details about the assignment I’m not mentioning because that’s getting too technical for a blog rant.

But on the other hand, it’s just another stepping stone on my way to taking over the world with my awesome army of… err… robot zombie programmers…. infused with…. vampire mermaid kitties? O_o;

…I’ll have to get back to you on that one. My brain isn’t functioning well right now.

Welcome

I would like to start with saying that my blog title as a Vampire Mermaid Kitty has nothing to do with Twilight. I am not a twi-tard. It is a nickname from 6 years ago.  I have read all the books with an open mind and my conclusion is this: the second book was good, the others are crap.  I haven’t seen the movies. More on that later.

SO. Welcome to my blog and thank you for visiting our site! I am Koria and I am a computer science student (minoring in Biology).  For the OAS, I am a dancer, actress, cosplayer, and Guelph liason.

In my future blogs you may find my rantings about my school, work, and commentaries about books, animes and video games that I am currently reading/watching/playing. I like critique. Don’t be scared to argue with me over a comment, I like hearing other people’s views on my own opinions. The world revolves around us all and the best way to learn is to listen.

See ya~!
